The district-level inauguration of the school reopening fete was held at Government Upper Primary School, Thadikkadavu, here. Cultural programmes were held in many schools.

Nearly 25,000 students were admitted to Class I in the schools here last year, he said, adding the number was expected to be similar this year.
Teachers' initiatives
Teachers took initiatives to ensure that there was no fall in the number of students joining Class I in their respective schools lest the institutions be branded ‘uneconomic.'
The teachers were also concerned about the drop in enrolment in government, aided and unaided schools over the years. The declining enrolment rate in the past was attributed to the mushrooming of schools with Central Board of Secondary Education syllabus.
